The Magic Of Oatmeal

Oatmeal is more than a delicious way to start your day.  Oatmeal is also a nutritious way to treat your skin!  Oats are like nature's little magic grain  You can cleanse, mask, scrub, soothe, and bathe with this breakfast delight.

Oatmeal works as a gentle cleanser.  It contains a mild cleansing agent, called a saponin.  These saponins remove dirt and oil from the pores.  Oatmeal contains proteins that repair the skin's natural barrier mantle, an important defense against environmental damage.  Also full of healthy fats, oatmeal can work as a moisturizer.

The early Greeks used oatmeal to heal skin irritations and.  Oatmeal helps to calm inflammation, dryness and itchy patches due to bug bites, psoriasis and eczema.  Colloidal oatmeal, finely milled oats, is a common ingredient in soothing bath mixtures.

I personally love to use freshly ground oatmeal flour  in my hand-crafted scrubs.  The  "magic" powder exfoliates even the most sensitive complexion and leaves a smooth, healthy glow.

The only possible concern with oatmeal is possibly those who are gluten-intolerant.  Oats themselves are not glutenous, BUT they are commonly grown near wheat and cross-contamination does occur.  Look for the phrase "Gluten-Free" on all skin care products if you have that allergy, including those that contain oats.
