Cleanse Your Face!

You can come see me for special treatments, acid peels, exfoliation treatments, specialized masks, deep relaxing facial massage, cold stone therapy, you name it... BUT all that necessary pampering and customized treatment won't do you a bit of good if you don't cleanse your face every day.

It is important to cleanse the face every morning and every night.  Why both times?  During the day we encounter toxins, environmental pollutants, dust, dirt and all kinds of junk floating around in the air.  This debris collects on our skin and in our pores.  Many women wear makeup as well.  Cleansing the skin at night helps to remove these impurities and allow the skin to breathe while we sleep.

The liver works pretty hard while we rest at night.  A lot of detoxification occurs during our unconscious hours.  Some of this detoxification of the liver comes out through the skin, especially the larger pores on our face.  That is why it is important to cleanse the face of these toxins in the morning before you start your day as well.

Soap is not really the best choice for your skin.  The skin needs a pH balance between roughly 5.4 and 5.9 to maintain a healthy acid mantle (the skin's fancy natural protection against the environment).  Most soaps are far more alkaline with lye soaps reaching the far end of the pH scale at a whopping 14.  Alkaline soaps can destroy the acid mantle and natural oil production leaving the skin raw, unprotected and dry.

The best choice for cleansing is a facial cleanser or facial wash with the correct pH balance for your skin type.  You should then follow the cleanser with a corresponding toner to ensure that the correct pH is attained and then a nice skin-type-appropriate moisturizer (although at night I usually skip the moisturizer to allow full liver detoxification).
