Wet and Wonderful Water

We have all heard this phrase: "Drink more water."  Is it really that imparative?  Quick answer: Yes!

Water is one of the most integral substances that nourishes our bodies.  In fact 70-75% of the body is composed of water.  Your skin is made up of about 90% water.  So, yes, drinking water is a must for a healthy body and a healthy complexion.

The skin's cells require water to function properly.  Without adequate water, it takes the skin cells longer to regenerate.  Slower regeneration of the skin cells (a decreased cell turn over rate) can lead to dead skin build-up and the appearance of quicker aging.  Besides dehydration and apparent aging, pores can also become larger due to a lack of water and this can open the skin to bacteria and harmful environmental toxins.

Water helps to detoxify and cleanse the body.  The body also cleanses through the skin, especially at night, but this is not the main pathway for toxins to exit the body.  If there is not enough water to flush the body, more and more toxins will exit through the skin, and this can lead to skin irritations and other issues if left unresolved.

Proper hydration gives you all kinds of benefits.  Clear skin, less fine lines and wrinkles, and a radiant and hydrated complexion are some skin-related benefits.  You can also improve joint function, brighten your eyes, improve circulation and blood flow, increase energy and make sure nutrients are getting to every cell in your body which will enhance overall health.

How much water should you drink daily?  Remember 8x8.  You should drink 8oz of water 8 times a day.  Seem like a lot?  Think of it this way: it's really only two 32oz. bottles of water a day.  Don't like the taste of water?  You can add a naturally flavored electrolyte blend to your water to give it an extra boost of minerals and make it a tasty treat.  Make sure that you are drinking filtered water.  You don't want any extra harmful toxins floating around.  You will know that you are drinking an adequate amount when your urine is a clear or pale yellow color, your thirst is quenched and you simply start to feel good!

Recommended:  Crazy Water, Ozarka, Reverse Osmosis Water (this tastes sweet and I love it, but make sure you are replenishing the minerals and electrolytes this water does not contain)
